James J. McCarthy is a professor of biological oceanography at Harvard University, a board member of the Union of Concerned Scientists and past president of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Ken Kimmell is the president of the Union of Concerned Scientists and a former commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection.
