Within hours of the news of yet-another deadly school shooting on Friday–this one at Santa Fe High School near Houston, TX — elected officials across New Hampshire’s partisan divide were speaking out on the terrible event that left as least 10 people dead.

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen sent out a tweet linking to this video of Santa Fe High student Paige Curry that has gone viral:

“Our children have come to wonder ‘when’ not ‘if’ their school will experience a shooting,” Sen. Shaheen tweeted.  “Thoughts & prayers are not enough without meaningful action to end gun violence. Children deserve so much better.”

Even before the Sante Fe shooting, some prominent Granite State Democrats were promoting the idea of repealing the Second Amendment.  Democrats running in the primary to replace Rep. Carol Shea-Porter have made new gun control laws a central part of the campaign.

That certainly is the case with Rep. Carol Shea-Porter:

And potential presidential candidates like former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley insisted during a recent visit to New Hampshire that “gun control is a winning issue for Democrats in 2020.”

Events like the shooting in Texas will no doubt keep the issue of guns and legislation at the forefront of the 2018 midterm elections here in New Hampshire.
