As Joe Biden bunkered in his basement, he found a powerful ally: Silicon Valley.
Determined to oust President Trump in November, America’s social media technocrats are doing everything in their power to stifle all political speech that goes against their pre-determined liberal narrative.
Facebook is the most egregious example.
Known for banning a wide range of conservatives in recent years, the social media giant has made its anti-Trump bias more flagrant and more far-reaching than ever before.
It is also more targeted: After Trump claimed that school-age children are “almost immune” from the COVID-19 pandemic’s worst consequences, Facebook removed a video interview posted on his account. (Twitter followed suit, blocking the president’s official re-election campaign account from tweeting.)
Now, Facebook’s censors have set their sights on my organization, the Committee to Defend the President, which is one of Trump’s largest and most ardent supporters.
After we released an advertisement criticizing Biden in his search for a running mate, Facebook’s left-wing “fact checkers” determined that our ad failed to clear their threshold of “truth.” When we put together a revised version, those same “fact checkers” banned us.
Did they check the facts contained in the new ad? No. Did they even watch it? Of course not.
Facebook ultimately decided to prevent a pro-Trump super PAC from running ads on its platform, while Joe Biden’s campaign, Democratic super PACs, and a host of other liberal interest groups conduct business as usual — as if their word is gospel.
In Facebook’s words: “As a result of the Committee to Defend the President’s repeated sharing of content determined by third-party fact-checkers to be false, they will not be permitted to advertise for a period of time on our platform.” This designated “period of time” just happens to expire immediately after Election Day.
The social media platform failed to specify how our ad was false — because it wasn’t.
The ad was 100 percent factual, but the truth does not matter to “fact checkers” with a political agenda. There is real truth, and then there’s Facebook “truth.” The real truth is that our ad was devastatingly effective in destroying the liberal narrative that Biden is pro-minority, and that is the only reason Facebook censored our ad.
Americans should be seriously concerned about Silicon Valley’s unmatched ability to use their powerful algorithms to promote one line of political thought while erasing all others. At no time in human history has there been such an effective propaganda tool — manipulating the thinking of an entire nation.
Whether it is China, Russia, Iran, or “woke” liberal technocrats in California, all are trying to interfere in the 2020 election to defeat Trump. We are witnessing an all-out attack on American democracy.
Censorship speaks not only to the vulnerability of the First Amendment, but also Silicon Valley’s disdain for free-thinking Americans. Technocrats like Mark Zuckerberg simply will not permit interference from any who dare to challenge their narrative.
Such liberal social media giants should not be allowed to become the thought police for the world.
When Facebook pretends to determine the truth for the rest of us, we move further and further away from finding it for ourselves. If we silently approve of this unprecedented censorship, we are complicit.
And we will see far greater infringement on our civil liberties in the days to come.
