The House of Representatives is preparing to vote this coming Thursday on its bill to replace the Affordable Care Act, according to a report from Politico this morning. There has been significant concern voiced among Republicans as at least 23 Republican Senators have come out in opposition to the House’s American Health Care Act, including Sen. Susan Collins who told her home state’s Portland Press Herald, “This is not a bill I could support in its current form…It really misses the mark.”
A former senior advisor to Bush-era Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson said, “Considering Republicans’ angst with this bill that includes cuts to Medicaid, problems with Medicare, and the millions of people who will become uninsured, it’s beginning to feel like Thursday’s vote will just be an exercise in futility.”
