First quarter 2018 finance reports were due to the Federal Elections Commission (FEC) this weekend for candidates running in all four of Iowa’s congressional races.

With primaries for all candidates in the state set to take place on June 5, a total of approximately $2.362 million was raised in the first quarter of 2018, with approximately $1.393 million spent in the same time frame, which is double from fourth quarter 2017, with fewer candidates.

Below is a breakdown of all the numbers raised by district, with each district’s coverage region and largest cities.

 

District 1:

Iowa’s first Congressional District covers northeast Iowa, with borders of Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. The district’s largest cities are Dubuque, Cedar Rapids, Cedar Falls, Waterloo, and Marshalltown, with the total population at approximately 763,903.

Republican

Rod Blum: Blum’s total receipt contributions are approximately $303,121. Of this amount, a total of approximately $189,219 are individual contributions. Blum received approximately $57,450 in committee contributions. Two of these contributions were for $5,000 each, made from Prosperity Action, Inc. and National Automobile Dealers Association. His total disbursements are approximately $24,176. His ending cash on hand balance is approximately $1,274,218.

Democrat

Abby Finkenauer: Finkenauer’s total receipt contributions are approximately $482,000, of which, approximately $343,351 are from individual contributions. She received approximately $85,369 from political committees. Finkenauer had approximately $131,431 in disbursements this quarter, and her ending cash on hand balance is approximately $729,635.

Thomas Heckroth: Heckroth’s total receipt contributions are approximately $58,824, of which $56,779 are in the form of individual contributions. His disbursements this quarter totaled approximately $87,600. Heckroth’s ending cash on hand for the period is approximately $160,873.

Courtney Rowe: Rowe’s total receipt contributions are approximately $4,250, all of which were individual contributions. Her total expenditures were approximately $8,755. Rowe’s ending cash on hand is approximately $827.

 

District 2:

Iowa’s second Congressional District covers the expanse of southeast Iowa, with borders of Illinois and Missouri. The district’s largest cities are Davenport, Iowa City, Muscatine, Clinton, Burlington, Newton, and Fort Madison, with the total population at approximately 765,120.

Republican

Christopher Peters: Peters’ total receipt contributions are approximately $452,401, of which approximately $116,529 are in the form of individual contributions. Approximately $220,200 were given to the campaign in the form of loans (including a $110,200 made by himself, though it was paid back this reporting period). Peters’ total disbursements for the period are approximately $433,369. Peters’ reported cash on hand is $26,806, with an outstanding loan of $110,000.

Ginny CaligiuriCaligiuri announced her candidacy early March 2018. Her total receipt contributions are approximately $27,008, of which all are individual contributions. Her total expenditures are approximately $11,750. Her ending cash on hand is approximately $15,258.

Democrat

David LoebsackLoebsacks’ total receipt contributions are approximately $237,367, of which, approximately $107,751 are individual contributions. He received approximately $129,200 in donations from political committees, with nine organizations making individual contributions of $5,000. Loebsack’s total disbursements are approximately $71,700. Loebsack’s ending cash on hand is approximately $179,0277.

 

District 3:

Iowa’s third Congressional District covers the expanse of southwest Iowa, with borders of Missouri and Kansas. The district’s largest cities are Des Moines, the Des Moines Metro (West Des Moines, Urbandale, Waukee, Ankeny), and Council Bluffs, with the total population at approximately 770,819.

Republican

David Young: Young’s total receipt contributions are approximately $309,106, of which, approximately $73,427 are individual contributions. He received approximately $147,800 in donations from political committees. Individual contributions of $5,000 were made by two committees. Young’s total disbursements are approximately $80,296. His total cash on hand is approximately $1,062,033.

Democrat

Cindy Axne: Axne’s total receipt contributions are approximately $155,419, of which, approximately $136,728 are individual contributions. She also gave herself a $17,000 loan. Axne’s total disbursements are approximately $69,886. Her total cash on hand is approximately $251,293.

Eddie Mauro: Mauro’s total receipt contributions are approximately $137,133, of which, approximately $37,108 are individual contributions. Mauro made a $100,000 loan to himself as well, bringing the total amount in loans to himself to $300,000. His total disbursements are $134,591. His total cash on hand is approximately $335,730.

Pete D’Alessandro: D’Alessandro’s total receipt contributions are approximately $151,092, of which, approximately $149,108 are individual contributions. His total disbursements are approximately $59,527. D’Alessandro’s total cash on hand is approximately $119,521.

 

District 4:

Iowa’s fourth Congressional District covers the expanse of northwest Iowa, with borders of Nebraska, South Dakota and Minnesota. The district’s largest cities are Sioux City, Ames, Mason City, Fort Dodge, Boone, and Carroll, with the total population at approximately 761,467.

Republican

Steve King: King’s total receipt contributions are approximately $124,216, of which approximately $92,676 are individual contributions. He also received approximately $31,540 from political committees. King’s total disbursements are $100,761. King’s total cash on hand is approximately $76,034.

Democrat

James ScholtenScholten’s total receipt contributions are approximately $219,511, of which, approximately $208,966 are individual contributions. He also made a $6,734 loan to himself. Scholten’s total disbursements are approximately $81,935. Scholten’s total cash on hand is approximately $271,098.

John PaschenPaschen’s total receipt contributions are approximately $50,647, of which, $20,242 are individual contributions. He also gave himself a $30,000 loan. Paschen’s total disbursements are $43,868. Paschen’s total cash on hand is approximately $54,666.

Leann Jacobsen: Jacobsen’s total receipt contributions are approximately $84,103, of which, approximately $80,637 are individual contributions. Her total disbursements are approximately $53,646.  Jacobsen’s total cash on hand is approximately $64,713.
